Numerical Reasoning Assessments
A numerical reasoning test is an aptitude test. This assessment is often used by companies to test the mathematical capabilities of potential candidates. Numerical reasoning tests often involve mathematical problems of various degrees.
The questions in these tests could be as simple as the basic mathematical operations like addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication. They can also be more difficult with much more complex mathematical functions, diagrams, and overall requirements.
The test is given to all candidates. The difficulty of the test, however, may vary from candidate to candidate. Most candidates will get the basic test that will assess their overall knowledge of basic math. However, candidates who apply for math-focused jobs may be given more difficult questions.
For example, those whose work employs the use of mathematics daily will have a more complex test. Engineers, accountants, architects, bank employees, and others will require a much more comprehensive understanding of mathematics, than writers, designers, voice actors, and others.
So, it is highly recommended that you practice these tests beforehand. There are different test providers that companies employ. Sometimes these test providers will provide tests that have major differences between them, and it is recommended that the candidate finds out which test provider the company is going to use.
These differences often have to do with the format, the difficulty of the questions, the timer requirements, etc. This creates a problem, since a candidate who's been preparing for one format, may get confused if they get another format, and thus lose precious time during the actual test.
To avoid confusion it is, therefore, very important to find out who the test provider is, and study accordingly. Numerical reasoning tests are an integral part of the hiring process. These tests can be as simple as having questions about subtraction, addition, multiplication, and division. These tests can also be more complex and include more advanced questions involving graphs, tables, functions, and other operations.
The difficulty of the test is directly related to the job requirements of the position the candidate is applying for. Another variable the effects these tests is the test provider. There are several different test providers whose tests differ in terms of structure and questions. To make sure that the candidate passes the assessment, it is highly recommended that they research the test provider and practice for the test.
