Полезная лексика:

1) To make up, to account for – составлять

Пример:

Afro-Americans account for 12% of the US population. – Афроамериканцы составляют 12% населения США.

2) The number of people – число людей; глагол как для ед. числа;

Пример:

The number of people employed in agriculture has fallen in the last decade. (Обратите внимание на "has fallen")

A number of people – несколько человек; глагол как для множественного числа;

Пример:

A number of measures were taken to alleviate the problem. – Несколько мер были приняты, чтобы облегчить проблему. (Оьратите внимание "were taken")

3) Percentage –проценты (часть речи – существительное) Процент может быть: high/low/small (на просторах интернета встречается large, на экзамене лучше не использовать).

Глагол как для единственного или как для множественного числа после percentage?

Правило следующие: если после слова percentage of следует существительное во мн. числе, то глагол как для мн.числа, если существительное в ед.числе, то глагол как для единственного числа (if the noun that follows "a percentage" of is plural, use a plural verb)

The percentage of unemployed is low. Но "A high percentage of married women have part-time job".

Описание круговой диаграммы:

1) Вступление:

Studying literature is vital to people because it teaches them about human history and gives food for thought.

2) Цель:

The aim of the project I am currently working on is to explore why literature should be studied in Zetland.

As can be seen from the pie chart, there are five different reasons provided by the respondents.

3) Сравниваем показатели:

The majority of the interviewed say that they read books in order to broaden their horizons (38%).

While comparing the answers of the surveyed, one can notice an interesting feature. There is a substantial difference between those who use studying literature to escape from daily chores (22%) and those who do it to discuss books with friends (10%).The difference accounts for 12%, and it implies that literature is seen more like a hobby for individuals than as a group activity.

Surprisingly, the desire to understand human psychology and nature is not among the most popular reasons named by the respondents. It makes up only 12%. While learning about history arouses more interest and engagement among the interviewed (18%).

4) Вывод и мнение:

Overall, this pie chart highlights the evidence that people want to broaden their knowledge, and it motivates them to read books.

I am convinced that studying literature is of the utmost importance for everyone. It develops and strengthens mind and spirit. Furthermore, literature inspires and helps readers to learn more about the outside world.
