Independent learning including a variety of reading materials are the key for getting the SKILLS you want for your LIFE. This is precisely the reason why I have stopped using the so-called Pearson, Macmillan and other publishers.
Now I am using the UK-School (National Curriculum) to teach students, and the results are amazing. The student cannot rely on the book anymore ;) they really have to read and understand the material.
The students just "race to complete the books" and not actually get the skills they need to understand the language. Coming back to your YouTube interview - Anna should talk in English, if she is talking in Russian, how can we know what is her current English level? including literacy and fluency skill?
