Modern society has reached a critically high level of consumption, which leads to an increase of the landfill sites and pollution of the environment. Although many people believe that using fewer resources is more valuable for our planet than recycling more, others have the opposite opinion. In my view, a balance of both approaches is essential for environmental sustainability.

Firstly, it is crucial for individuals to use fewer non-renewable resources to prevent their rapid depletion. Resources such as earth metals, wood and oil are finite and will eventually run out if not managed properly. By cutting back on the amount we use, we can extend the time that these materials remain accessible for future generations and reduce the environmental consequences linked to their extraction and utilization.

On the other hand, recycling plays a vital role in minimizing environmental damage. The accumulation of plastic garbage in the ocean, overflowing landfills and pollution from improper waste disposal are all pressing issues that can be resolved through recycling. By reusing materials and redirecting them away from the waste stream, we can reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills and decrease the demand of new resources.

In conclusion, while it is important to encourage individuals to use fewer resources to preserve finite materials and minimize environmental impact, recycling should not be ignored. A combination of reducing consumption and increasing recycling efforts is necessary for achieving the best results in terms of environmental sustainability. By taking a holistic approach that includes both reducing resource consumption and recycling, we can work towards a more sustainable future for our planet.
