Science is more useful than human judgement in stopping crime. To what extent do you agree?
In the modern landscape of crime prevention and law enforcement, both human judgement and scientific methods are important. While science tools and techniques provide precise evidence, personal evaluation remains essential for applying this evidence effectively. Therefore, I believe that human judgement is slightly more important than science in stopping crime.
Human judgement plays a crucial role in crime-solving due to people’s ability to make ethical considerations and apply logical reasoning. While science can offer DNA matches, it is humans who take into account witness statements and guide the direction of the investigation. Moreover, human evaluation is essential in understanding the context and nuances of criminal behaviour. This includes interpreting body language and detecting criminal patterns that are not immediately evident through scientific data alone.
On the other hand, science provides reliable evidence that is crucial in crime-solving. Techniques such as DNA analysis and fingerprinting can identify suspects and link evidence and details on crime scenes. However, scientific methods have their limitations. For instance, identical twins share the same DNA, making it impossible to distinguish between them solely through DNA analysis. Additionally, DNA evidence can be planted at crime scenes, leading to potential miscarriages of justice if not correctly interpreted. Therefore, while science is extremely useful, it is not perfect. It needs to be looked at and interpreted by humans to make sure it is used correctly and fairly.
In conclusion, both human opinion and science are essential in the fight against crime. Although science provides the tools necessary for gathering objective evidence, it is human judgement that interprets this evidence, applying it in a meaningful way.
